Tra Stati Uniti e Unione europea è stato stipulato un accordo bilaterale in materia di misure di vigilanza prudenziale in ambito (ri-)assicurativo (“Bilateral Agreement between the European Union and the United States of America on prudential measures regarding insurance and reinsurance”), i cui scopi principali sono quelli di:
- innalzare i livelli di tutela riservata ai consumatori dei prodotti assicurativi;
- incoraggiare le Autorità di vigilanza europee e statunitensi a mantenere attivo lo scambio di informazioni (supervisory information) relative alle imprese (ri-)assicuratrici che operano sui mercati europei e in quello USA.
Il documento dovrà ricevere, a breve, la formale e definitiva approvazione (endorsement) da parte sia del Congresso statunitense sia delle Autorità europee (Parlamento e Consiglio).
